Celebrating One Year of Huntsville City Lifestyle
By Abigail Harrison, DHI Communications Coordinator
Huntsville City Lifestyle Magazine recently celebrated its one year anniversary of the publication, which highlights the vibrant essence of Huntsville and its residents.
Founded by Amy Bailey and a team of passionate individuals with deep roots in the community, Huntsville City Lifestyle Magazine aimed to fill a gap in local media by offering a platform that showcases the city's unique charm, diverse businesses, and remarkable stories of people who call it home.
According to Bailey, the publication released its first issue in February 2023. The launch of the first issue was a team effort that took a lot of work and planning, but now, it feels good to be established.
“To see where we are now is just incredible… It feels like yesterday and forever at the same time,” Bailey said.
Huntsville City Lifestyle Magazine is a monthly magazine that follows a different theme each month and features writings, photography, and art commissioned by local artists.
One key component that Bailey envisioned from the very beginning was featuring original artwork on the magazine covers. During the first year, the publication had several covers that were designed by local artists or that depicted a Huntsville theme.
“It’s important for us to elevate our Alabama artists, to help them get their name out there more, and to make them feel valued for their work,” Bailey said.
Another milestone for the magazine was moving into a new office space in Downtown Huntsville. Bailey was able to plan out the layout of the space and strategically left an open floorplan to host special events and art openings. The team officially moved in at the end of Summer 2023.
As Bailey reflected on the past year, one interview still stands out to her. It was one she did for the very first issue, an interview with second-generation rocket scientist David Beaman about the Artemis mission. To this day, she can still remember the quote he told her:
“It takes every single job in this community to make this community work. Whether it's high tech or low tech, whether it's people working in a restaurant or delivery drivers or landscapers, all these people make this community work. So this rocket is something we share because this community played a major role in us getting where we are today. That's why I say this is our rocket,” Beaman said in the article.
Though the quote is about rockets, it can still be applied to the vibrant, diverse community that makes Huntsville a wonderful place to work, live, and play, which is exactly what Bailey strives to showcase in the magazine.
