The Washington Street Sisters (Humphrey’s and The Bottle)
By Abigail Harrison, DHI Communications Coordinator
Those who frequent Downtown Huntsville are probably very familiar with Humphrey’s Bar & Grill and its next-door fine-dining sister-restaurant, The Bottle.
Humphrey’s has been a popular spot to grab dinner and drinks for over 20 years, and The Bottle was established 10 years ago, bringing Southern Cuisine with a French influence to Downtown’s dining options.
Though the two restaurants have been around for a while, they recently underwent a change in ownership, with DeAnn and David Milly coming on board, along with Bill Chapman, Chef Andy Howery, and Tim Giraldin. The new team has been working hard to create an atmosphere that both long-time and new customers will love.
According to DeAnn Milly, The Bottle will soon be undergoing upstairs renovations, and Humphrey’s has been working on elevating its menu to include specialty food items by Chef Scott Curry.
DeAnn is passionate about collaborating with other local businesses and artists, like local photographer Dennis Keim, to make sure everyone in the community is thriving.
“I’m a big advocate of working with Downtown businesses and women-owned businesses,” DeAnn said. “So, I like to help other small business owners get their goods out there and get recognition.”
DeAnn and her husband bought into Humphrey’s and The Bottle six months ago. The two have been married for seven years and have both previously owned businesses, but this is the first time either of them have owned a restaurant. They loved the area and had great memories at the restaurants, so they decided to give it a chance.
“The Bottle was just our favorite hangout, and we also enjoyed music at Humphrey’s. But we heard that Andy wanted help with new management and ownership, so we were really excited about stepping in,” DeAnn said.
There are many exciting, upcoming events happening at Humphrey’s and The Bottle. This weekend, Humphrey’s is partnering with the Charger Tipoff to host a weekend-long party for UAH alumni and friends.
The party will kick off on Friday at 6 PM, with a DJ, food, and beer specials. Later that night at 9 PM, there will be live music performed by The Nerve. On Saturday, there will be a Women in Music Week celebration with a performance by Luna Koi at brunch from 11 AM - 2 PM, and a performance by The Mishaps at night from 9 PM - 12:30 AM. The weekend will end on Sunday with a farewell brunch for alumni from 11 AM - 2 PM and a performance by Microwave Dave! All weekend long, Charger fans can order the special ‘Big Blue’ cocktail for 6$,
The Bottle is also gearing up to host its monthly wine dinner on Sept. 26-28. This month, they are featuring SEC in the Kitchen, which celebrates comfort foods from the Southeastern Conference paired with all-American wine.
