From Feed and Seed to Furniture Expertise: The Story of Brooks & Collier Commercial

By Abigail Harrison, DHI Communications Coordinator

As Foster Brooks recounts, the Brooks & Collier story started back when Huntsville was a major agriculture town. The original shop, a feed and seed business, sold everything from farming supplies to baby chickens. But as the city grew, so did Brooks & Collier.

“NASA and Redstone Arsenal really started taking off,” Foster shares, “and that changed the business in a way.” By 1960s, this shift in Huntsville’s economy led Foster’s grandparents to expand the supply store with the additions of a garden center, furniture items, and accessories.

"My dad bought the store in the early ‘90s," Foster explains. “He added an extra layer by having more indoor furniture, some one-of-a-kind pieces that he would go all over the world collecting.”

Today, Brooks & Collier continues to be known for its niche in outdoor furniture while also expanding its scope through the commercial sector.

Huntsville’s rapid growth presented an exciting opportunity for Brooks & Collier. Foster, along with his partners Greg Brooks, Jordan Fite, and Eric Grisham, saw the chance to take the company’s commercial projects to the next level, leading to the launch of Brooks & Collier Commercial.

Their goal with the new venture was to provide high quality commercial furniture that transforms workspaces. From healthcare to education, corporate to hospitality, Brooks & Collier Commercial’s portfolio has grown impressively in just a year and a half. They pride themselves on delivering unique, personalized designs that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

What truly sets Brooks & Collier Commercial apart is their personalized approach to each project.

“We're able to help our clients create spaces that are personalized to them, give them the best functionality, and match the aesthetic that they're going for,” Jordan said.

They accomplish this by having a broad selection of furniture manufacturers they use to select pieces from. They also are able to add decor elements from the Brooks & Collier retail store.

“Brooks & Collier has greenhouses with plants, so we're able to add greenery to some of our projects to help soften up the design, as well as artwork and accessories,” Foster said.

“It’s convenient for our clients that they're not having to go to three different places to finish out a project,” Jordan adds.

The company’s deep roots in the local community also give them a unique edge. "We’re local, from design to installation to service," Jordan explains. "If something were to go wrong, we typically can be there within 24 hours to get an issue addressed.”

A commitment to customer service is at the heart of Brooks & Collier Commercial.

“One of our top priorities is making sure that our clients are taken care of not only throughout the process of the order and installation, but also in the days, weeks, and months following the project,” Jordan said.

With the official grand opening of their new showroom happening next week, Brooks & Collier Commercial is ready to start working on more projects in the community.

“We want to be a local resource for people,” Jordan said. ”It doesn't matter what size project, large or small, we want to help the customer create their vision.”

Their showroom is open on an appointment basis only. For more information or to book an appointment, email commercial@brooksandcollier.com or visit www.brooksandcolliercommercial.com.
