Downtown Fall Bucket List
By Ainsley Hill, DHI Intern
Starting to get excited about the Fall season just around the corner? Here is a list of some recurring Fall festivities going on in Downtown Huntsville this season.
Green Street Market
Enjoy this producer-only, open-air market for fresh, locally grown vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers. Here you can meet farmers with gorgeous local produce, grass fed beef and pork, and free range chicken and eggs. You can also meet local artisans and view their works. The Green Street Market is every Thursday Afternoon from now until the last Thursday in October. This event is on the corner of Eustis and Greene from 3 to 6 PM.
Huntsville Ghost Walks
Hear stories from Huntsville’s haunted past and learn why the spirits remain. All tours begin at Harrison Brothers Hardware Store at 6 PM. Tour options feature the Twickenham Ghost Walk, Old Town Ghost Walk, and Downtown Ghost Walk. Walking tours are every Friday and Saturday in September and October, now offering Sundays in October as well! Buy tickets here.
Movies in the Park
Movies in the Park is coming back in full swing! Every Friday in October, a movie will be projected onto a movie screen in Big Spring Park East around sunset. Each night will have food trucks vendors and themed entertainment prior to the movie showing. Make sure to bring your own blanket and chairs, and come out to enjoy these Fall Friday Nights!
Concerts on the Dock
This free concert series is an opportunity for our community to take in a variety of family-friendly and local entertainment. This series will occur every Friday until October 4 from 6 to 9 PM at Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment. Lowe Mill brings our music-loving community the freshest sounds available in local, regional, and national acts they simply would not see anywhere else.
Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll
Mark your calendar for the third Sunday in October! This Maple Hill Cemetery event has grown to be one of the largest living history strolls in the nation. Featuring over 75 costumed characters, traditional music, special exhibits, an expanded antique auto display, and student scavenger hunts. The stroll is a free event for all ages, but donations are welcome and used to preserve and restore the historic sections of Maple Hill Cemetery.
North Alabama Railroad Museum Fall Color Special
This is the time of year where the leaves put on their show for us, and there’s nothing like a scenic train trip through the colorful foliage on the Mercury & Chase Railroad. This is a 10 mile train ride lasting over an hour. Dates for this ride include Saturday, October 26 and Saturday November 2. Buy tickets here.
