Get to Know the Owners of One Man’s Vintage
By Ainsley Hill, DHI Intern
Tell us a little bit about yourselves and One Man's Vintage.
We’re Caleb and Anna, the co-owners of One Man’s Vintage.
Caleb: I was born in Huntsville, but spent a majority of my life growing up in Rochester, NY. In 2014, I moved to Huntsville with my family and attended UAH where I got my bachelor’s in electrical engineering.
Anna: My journey also starts from up north, Chicago to be exact. I moved to the South when I started college at Mississippi State University and recently moved to Huntsville about 3 years ago. I have an educational background in wildlife conservation.
One Man's Vintage is a locally-owned vintage clothing store located in the heart of Downtown Huntsville. We specialize in 80's, 90's, and Y2K fashion, and cater to those who appreciate the nostalgia and uniqueness of vintage apparel. We take pride in offering a carefully curated selection of items, with new pieces every week. We also offer buy, sell, and trade services to keep our inventory dynamic and sustainable. Our mission is to help every customer find something that speaks to their individual style and personality.
How did you get involved in the vintage community?
Caleb: During my college years, I would thrift for myself and family/friends. Being drawn to 90's sportswear, vintage quickly became a way to express myself and my personality.
Anna: As the vintage community started to grow on apps like Depop, my interest in shopping second hand grew with it! As an avid shopper and conservationist, shopping vintage connected me with being eco conscious and also fashionable. I grew up going to goodwill with my parents shopping for name brand items and attending outdoors flea markets in Chicago during the summer. It was inevitable that my path would follow opening a vintage store!
As a business, our involvement with the vintage community really started once we began doing local markets. There we began to meet others and create friendships with others who share a passion and interest in vintage clothing. Now with the store we get to meet all types of vintage enthusiasts!
When choosing a location for One Man's Vintage, what made you choose Downtown Huntsville? What do you enjoy about this community?
Well, with both of us being from areas with larger cities, we’re used to the downtown area being reflective of the city. Downtown is the place that draws in tourists and visitors. It’s a place that’s vibrant and diverse from retail to restaurants to activities. When we envisioned the future of One Man’s Vintage it was being a part of that type of community. Our favorite thing about this community is the variety of people that come into the store. We love seeing the different reactions and hearing everyone’s different stories.
How was your grand re-opening day for your new space in Downtown Storage? What does this bigger space mean for your business?
It was surreal at the type of support we received from the vintage community, we had a line of over 20 people waiting for us to open (the first people had been waiting for almost 2 hours by the time we opened the doors). More space allows us to not only put more pieces out, but also gives us the ability interact with the community in different ways (ie. partnering with local charities to put on food/clothing drives, hosting small local events, etc). Also part of our dream was to be able to watch the seasons go by in our storefront. With three giant windows we can do just that! We can’t wait to be part of the nightlife downtown has to offer with our new extended hours!
If someone is news to Huntsville, what is one thing you want them to know about your business?
One thing people may not know about our store is that we actually carry women’s pieces as well! Anna does an amazing job curating trendy vintage pieces. With our new storefront, we will be expanding our collection to carry more seasonal women’s wear and hopefully kids pieces soon!
The Downtown Vintage Market is this weekend, what can people expect from this event?
Huntsville’s Downtown Vintage Market brings together over 40 vintage vendors from across the southeast. They each bring their own uniquely curated collections, ranging from clothes and accessories to decor and collectibles. It’s always a fun time with music and local food trucks. If you’ve never been or gotten a chance to go we recommend swinging by Saturday to check it out! You’ll never know what you’ll find!
